The John Muir Trail @ PCT, 1990

Posts

The John Muir Trail is one of the oldest and most beautiful trails in America. It runs through the High Sierra Nevada, passing through Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. Altogether it stretches 211 miles (about 340 kilometers), and its highest point is Mount Whitney, which at 4,421 meters above sea level is also the highest peak in the continental United States.

The Sierra Nevada is often heavily snow-covered during the winter, late spring, and early autumn. It’s a fairly remote region nestled in California’s mountain range, and the John Muir Trail overlaps with the Pacific Crest Trail, which I plan to hike at the beginning of 2026.
