About Author

I was born in the Sudetenland, in a region where history and human destinies often collided. Perhaps that’s why I was never content to walk the well-paved path.

The desire to explore, to try, to cross boundaries – both the real ones and those within myself – has followed me all my life. One day I set out across the ocean, to Canada and the United States. Those were two years filled with freedom, adventure, and learning what it truly means to be on a journey.

Then came another chapter – Prague, family, home, work, projects, global corporations. Everything that makes up a “normal” life, which I lived fully and with gratitude. But this year, that chapter came to an end.

I feel that a new time is coming – a time to set out once again. I want to rediscover the world, but above all, myself.

Soon I’ll be heading to New Zealand, where I’ll hike the South Island along the Te Araroa Trail – 1,300 kilometers through mountains, forests, and rivers. And in spring, I’ll return – after 36 years – to where it all began: the Pacific Crest Trail in America. In 1990, I walked the section from Yosemite to Mount Whitney. This time, I want to complete the entire journey – from Mexico to Canada, about 4 500 km. I don’t know exactly what I’ll find there. But I know I’m heading in the right direction
